So, what can I buy to prepare when I know nothing...

Baby or toddler? - Nope!

One child or two? - Nope!

Boy or girl? - Nope!

Hmmm...I think I need some retail therapy for sure, and something small and cute to get me through this waiting game.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe this seems lame (or predictable?) coming from a library worker, but picture books are always a good bet. They are gender-nonspecific, and basically age non-specific (who doesn't like books with pictures? even adults!). Art supplies are also good...we had a whole cupboard filled with them when I was a kid - construction paper, crayons, markers, coloring books, etc. Hang in there, buddy!

We get each of our children a special stuffed animal and a special blanket. You can go pretty gender/age neutral on these.

Books and learning toys and stuffed animals are great ideas. They are non gender specific and non age specific to a point. You could also get some neutral colored blankets. Small blankets. Tans and beiges will go with either pink or blue decor easily. Nothing more comforting than having a blankie right away. They have those little blankets with a stuffed animal attatched. How cute. Good luck hon, I know your waiting game all too well. It has been a year for us too. Chin up.
